Gorgeous Gowns: Stephanie James

I’ve save the very best for last!  You may remember my post from earlier this year when I had the opportunity to try on a couple of Stephanie James’ designs at Anna Be.  I absolutely love her!  I’m a North Face-wearing, fleece-loving, Colorado mountain girl but when I tried on those dresses I was wishing I could travel back to the 50’s so that I had an excuse to wear dresses like this all the time!  Although the look didn’t really fit my laid back mountain wedding I still secretly wish I would have worn the Audry dress. I felt so beautiful in it and wanted to twirl all day long!   Continue reading ‘Gorgeous Gowns: Stephanie James’

Gorgeous Gowns: Claire Pettibone

This week is all about my favorite wedding dress designers.  I’m not sure how I discovered Claire Pettibone but I’ve been a fan for years.  Her dresses exude romance.  I love how light and airy and comfortable they look.  These are some of my favorites from this year’s and last year’s collections. Gorgeous Gowns: Maggie Sottero

This week I’d like to share some of my favorite designers with you.  First up, Maggie Sottero.  I love that most of her designs are available in a variety of options from white to ivory to silver and more.  White isn’t for everyone so I think this is such a great way to make your dress fit your personal style.  I could spend days drooling over the dresses on her site.  Here are a few of my absolute favorites.   Continue reading ‘Gorgeous Gowns: Maggie Sottero’

Love, love, love it!

I just had to write and say that I am loving this new dress from JCrew!  I was just browsing their site and I love that they have something new every time I’m there.

That’s all for now!  Hope you all have a fantastic Memorial day weekend!

The Trading Post - Indian Hills, Colorado

Last week I was invited to an open house to check out the new venue, The Trading Post.  It’s not exactly new, it’s a charming historic log building that was built in the 1920’s, but it’s just recently been open to hosting events.  The party was hosted by Mary & Craig from Aspen Specialty Foods and the food, as expected, was fabulous!

I’m so glad I got a chance to check out this new spot as it’s incredibly unique and a bit hidden in the foothills. It’s located in Indian Hills on Parmalee Gulch Road off Highway 285.  The space is small but as a bride who is having a wedding with only 50 people, I know how hard it can be to find a space that feels cozy and fitting for a small group.  If you’re planning a small, intimate wedding reception in the foothills you should check out The Trading Post.  It’s also a great spot for rehearsal dinners!  For more information contact Steve at 720.937.3899 or sjsonnen@yahoo.com.

I forgot to take my camera but I’ll be sure to remember it next time I visit a Colorado wedding venue.

Happy wedding planning! -Michele

Wedding Day Survival Kit

As a wedding photographer I have seen many occasions where a bride desperately needs one simple item that no one seems to have.  The most popular being scissors, safety pin, super glue and breath mints. They seem like simple items but when you are planning the most important day of your life remembering to bring these things with you on the big day can be a task.  That’s why every girl needs the Wedding Day Survival Kit.  I came across a great one on wishingfish.com which includes: toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, mints, drinking straw, pain reliever, antacid, hand lotion, emery board, clear nail polish, facial tissues, deodorant, tampons, adhesive bandages, hair brush, hair spray, bobby pins, interior mirror, lint remover, mending kit, scissors, safety pins, stain remover, static remover, super glue, double-sided tape, earring backs, and corsage pins.  Whether you buy the kit or put one together yourself, I highly, highly recommend not leaving home on your wedding day without these very important items.  Hopefully you won’t need most of them, but if you do you will be very glad that you had them!

Not Your Typical Honeymoon

White sandy beaches, deep blue ocean and fruity drinks with little umbrellas will always have a certain appeal to it but when I go on vacation I want to have an adventure.  I recently came across REI Adventures and thought now this is the way to travel!  They offer trips all across the world along with a wide variety of activities from climbing, hiking, rafting and more.  The best part is you don’t have to be an all star athlete to embark on an REI adventure, active trips are offered for every skill level.  I also love that most trips include meals, accomadations, camping gear (if needed) and equipment (such as bikes, kayaks, etc.).  All you have to do is pack a backpack and head to your destination.  If I were to take one of these trips today it would definitely be to Alaska.  To give you an idea, this is a summary of what I would be doing on a 7 day trip:

Day 1 - Kayaking in Seward
Day 2 - Kayaking in Seward
Day 3 - Hiking at Harding Ice Field
Day 4 - Kayaking to Kenai National Wildlife Refuge
Day 5 - Hiking in Homer
Day 6 - Mountain biking in Chugach National Forest
Day 7 - White water rafting in Sterling

Wow!  I can’t imagine what an amazing trip that would be!  Not only would it be the trip of a lifetime but I’d come home in better shape than when I left.  So if you’re looking for an alternative from the typical honeymoon, I think this is the way to go!  Check out www.rei.com/adventures for all the details!
